WERA Surface Currents at Petten

current field, 2 km grid
A surface current field measured on a 2 km x 2 km grid by two WERA radars at Petten and Voordijk. The absolute value of the current velocity is encoded in colour-scale, the arrows show speed and direction of the current field.

A coastal jet with current velocities of up to 1.2 m/s propagates along the coast. This jet is a wellknown phenomenon and caused by the Rhine outflow some 100 km further south.
